During the conversation, Gen. Petraeus emphasized the need for strategic leadership, for which there are four tasks, as follows:
- Ability to grasp the overall strategic situation - get the “big ideas” right.
- Communicate the “big ideas” with stakeholders.
- Oversee implementation of the big ideas (relentlessly).
- Determine how the big ideas need to be refined, adapted and augmented.
